Our department’s faculty members Prof. Dr. İbrahim TİRYAKİOĞLU and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali UĞUR are taking part as researchers in the project titled “Determination of the Earthquake Hazard of the Malatya Fault Under Energy Loading After the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes with a High Spatial Resolution GNSS Network,” which has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Program.
The project, which was entitled to be supported as a result of the scientific evaluation of TÜBİTAK 1001 projects, is led by Aksaray University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geomatics Engineering faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Cemil GEZGİN. Within the scope of the project, with the high spatial resolution GNSS network to be established, the strain accumulation, velocity field, and segment-based fault slip rates on the Malatya Fault after the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes will be examined in detail. It is aimed that the scientific findings to be obtained will provide significant contributions to the determination of the current earthquake hazard of the region and to disaster risk reduction studies.
In this multi-partner project, where researchers from different universities and institutions come together, Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geomatics Engineering faculty members Prof. Dr. İbrahim TİRYAKİOĞLU and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali UĞUR will serve as researchers.
We congratulate our esteemed faculty members and wish them continued success in their studies.
